Welcome to Year 1!
- Teacher: Mrs Godfrey
- Teaching Assistant: Mrs Larkey
Our topic this term is Explorers. we have started to find out about Neil Armstrong – the first man to step foot on the moon. We will be researching other explorers.
Our science topics this term are: the human body and the changing of the seasons. We will learn about the basic bones in our body. If you are able to go for a walk in a park and look at the changes that are happening, this will support your child’s learning in class.
We are extremely excited as this year we have been able to have access to an outside area, similar to the area in Reception. This will enable children to make an easier transition into Year One and continue their learning through play.
St Johns Class - Monday and Wednesday.
We would like all children to come to school in their PE kits. Please make sure they are dressed for the weather, if it is cooler then they will need legging or track suit bottoms and a fleece or jumper. We will be outside for all of our PE lessons.
Forest School Day - Thursday afternoon
We would like all children to come to school in home clothes, something you would be happy for your child to get wet and muddy! Children will be going outside, in the rain and sun, please make sure they are dressed for the weather. It would be good to send them in trainers or shoes and a pair of wellies they can change into for Forest School.
Every day please send in:
Your child’s reading record and reading book – please read with your child, or ask a sibling or another family member to read 5 nights out of 7.
Your child’s yellow Phonics folder – these contain phonics worksheets that have been completed during the school day. We request that every evening they be looked through (practise reading the new phonetic code and the vocabulary to support this - this should take no more than 5 minutes each night.
A clean water bottle, with fresh water only. We will send home water bottles every day so you can clean them ready for the following day.
This year we will be using our phonic learning to provide us with our spellings. These will be sent out every half term. After October half term we will add our Year One exception words to the spellings and learn a sentence. Children will be tested the following week.
This is additional work that your child can complete at home to support their maths. We will be keeping an eye on who completes the challenges that are set. Your child will bring home their own unique login in their spelling folder. This will start next week.
