Week commencing 20/04

Home learning week beginning 20/04/2020

Hello everyone!

We hope you are fit and well and are ready for another week of home learning. (Week 3)

As usual, we would like you to fill in and sign your reading record, practise your spellings (attached below) and work on your times table recall every day, Monday – Friday.  We have uploaded a differentiated reading comprehension (one star= mild, two stars = medium & 3 starts = spicy). This will take some time, so please use this as three out of five of your daily reading comments. You do not need to do the whole comprehension in one day if you don’t want to or don’t have time. There are some optional reading activities if you want a change from your reading book.

We have also included a poem for you to copy out in your neatest handwriting. You could always illustrate it if you have time.

Maths

We have included something different for maths this week.

On Monday and Tuesday, we would like you to have a go at the ‘Four 4s’ activity – see how far you can get! On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, see how many of the indoor learning activities for KS2 you can complete – good luck, and don’t worry if you don’t have the time or resources to complete all of the activities on the sheet.

As usual, Mr Bailey will be uploading the maths revision lessons here.  This week, they focus on times table facts and methods of multiplication and division. For the previous lessons on Place value, addition and subtraction, see the previous weeks!

The White Rose Hub are releasing free resources daily- these would be following on in the sequence we would be learning in class, currently decimals:  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/

English

We have a series of structured daily lessons for you to complete (Week 3, days 1-5). Spend no more than one hour each day on the lessons.

Spelling – Spelling- In class, we have enjoyed using spelling frame to practice the different spelling rules. All children have had a log in and can access this at home. Over the period we are off, I would recommend that every child starts off with the Year 1 words and completes 3-5 spelling rules a day using the games, and only redoing if they get less than 100%. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to improve their spellings while they are off! The homework spelling rules that are set as tests each week will continue in the weeks scheduled in the letter that was previously sent home.    https://spellingframe.co.uk/
