A Message From the Head of School

Hello, I'm Cara Hearns, and I am delighted to be joining Trumpington Meadows Primary School as Head of School.

I have been teaching in Cambridgeshire for the past 15 years and have been fortunate to work in a range of teaching and leadership roles. Most recently, I was Executive Deputy Headteacher across two primary schools, supporting school improvement and leading curriculum development and behaviour for learning.

Walking through Trumpington Meadows doors for the first time, I knew it was the school and community I wanted to be part of. I feel incredibly proud to be leading Trumpington Meadows alongside the leadership team. I am excited to work with our dedicated and highly skilled staff, wonderful children and supportive families. I believe the strongest schools are built on genuine partnerships, where we work together to help every child reach their full potential. I am looking forward to meeting you all and working together to support your children. 

Throughout my career, one thing has always remained the same: children are at the heart of everything I do. I believe children learn best when they feel happy, safe and valued. My approach to education is built on strong relationships, creating an active, engaging and fun learning environment, and ensuring every child feels a true sense of belonging. I am passionate about helping children develop not only the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, but also the confidence, resilience and curiosity that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Outside of school, I spend most of my time with my two young children, and our weekends are usually filled with outdoor adventures. Whether we're exploring, cycling or turning learning into an adventure with giant chalk, phonics treasure hunts and tricky word games, we love finding creative ways to make learning fun and memorable. Whenever I get the opportunity, you'll also find me on or in the water, whether that's swimming at the outdoor pool in Cambridge, sailing in France or reflecting on the unforgettable experience of setting up camp on an iceberg in the Arctic.
