A message from the Head of School

My name is Phil Harwood and I am the Head of School at Fawcett Primary School.
My teaching career started in Cambridge and has taken me around the world. I have been lucky to work with some amazing schools, individuals and institutions as a teacher, senior leader, consultant and school governor over the past 20 or so years and I am delighted to be a part of the Trumpington Federation and look forward to building upon Fawcett’s many strengths to create something awesome together.
I have a wonderful family who keep me grounded. My wife is also a teacher and both of my children are in school, so we live and breathe learning! In our free time we love the beach, camping, cooking and days out together.
I believe that education should be an adventure, filled with curiosity and wonder, in which we celebrate the awesomeness of all young people; the role of education has changed from the transmission of knowledge to developing and nurturing the skills and values that young people will need to engage ethically and thrive in an ever changing future.
I bring with me an unwavering belief in the power of education to change lives, and that every young person is capable of great things and should be celebrated. The Federation’s vision and ethos are at the heart of everything we do and I am genuinely privileged to lead Fawcett’s community with the Federation’s leadership. I believe that education ‘takes a village’ and look forward to working with our parents, carers, children and partners as we move from strength to strength to ensure that your child is the best that they can be both in and beyond Fawcett.
