week commencing 2nd march 2020

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet so many of you along with your children at Parent's Evening.  In addition, this week we celebrated World Book Day and had the visiting Planetarium which was fascinating.

In maths, we are looking at shape, beginning with lines and angles.  We shall move on to 2d and 3d shape and turning in the coming weeks.  Below is one of our working wall pages to show you what vocabulary we would like the children to understand.

The Readathon has begun.  Two weeks to read for as many minutes as possible.  Please encourage your child to read or read to them.  The sponsorship forms have been sent home.  All proceeds are going towards the PFA providing tablets in each classroom.   On Thursday, every child in G&C read for at least 30 minutes.   We 'Buddied-up' with Year 6 and enjoyed a vast array of texts.

On World Book Day, we also revisited characterisation.  We took the opportunity to study Quentin Blake's illustrations and see how he managed to capture character with speedily drawn figures using pen and water colour.  The children wrote short paragraphs of description and painted a character which they they used as a pop-up to support D&T skills.  This has made a fantastic display in the Learning Walk.   It helped them to study how limbs articulate and bend too.  (We had some fun with posing.)
