Week commencing 7th Sept 2020
After such a long time apart, it was wonderful to get back to school and regain a sense of normality. Well done on such a great start to the term, Lucy Cavendish.
This week in Lucy Cavendish:
On Thursday we kick started our new topic ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’ with our ‘Hook Day’. Our latest topic centres on WWII. On this fun-filled day we learnt what might have happened to an evacuee during the war. We made boxes to carry our gas masks and made sure to keep our identity cards on us at all times. We discussed how children would have entertained themselves in Anderson Shelters during air raids and made board games which we played with our friends. We experienced air raid sirens and ducked under the tables for safety whenever we heard them. Well done on some super costumes, Lucy Cavendish!
In Maths we began our unit on Place Value, starting with a cold task. We then began looking at reading, comparing and ordering numbers with decimal points.
In English this week, for our ‘cold write’, we wrote a letter from the perspective of an evacuee writing to a loved one. We also discussed the Blitz and wrote some poems based on this using lots of powerful imagery.
In Art, we made parachutes from which to hang our Blitz poems. They will be displayed in classroom and in the learning street.
