Week commencing 27th Jan 2020
In Year 6 this week, we have begun a new English unit, focusing on information texts. We have looked at a model text to explore different ways of engaging the reader and Miss Gibson has created her own travel agency, employing those children who produced the best, most enticing description of their location. Here are some of the phrases the class used:
'Screens blare and vibrate as a kaleidoscope of colour bursts from the advertisements'
'This green world is ever explorers dream: you can discover animals from the smallest ant to the largest tiger.'
'The variety of birds will bring beauty to your eyes; you'll never get enough of the beauty of the Amazon'
We then looked at how to describe different creatures, using facts but also engaging our reader. Have a look at Kyle's description below:
In Maths, we completed a week looking at ratio and proportion: we solved scaling problems with numbers and shapes; looked at recipe-style challenges and considered the links between ratio and other areas of our maths learning - for example, fractions. We all made great progress; look at Eva's example!
Finally, in our topic lessons we have explored different world religions and considered the themes within them - for example their views on the afterlife; begun to consider the reasons for and implications of deforestation and continued to explore adaptation by looking at plant adaptation in Science.
