Week commencing 11th Nov 2019
Autumn 2 - Week 3
This week in English we have continued with our balanced arguments on 'should animals be kept in zoos?' We have written two paragraphs; one paragraph against keeping animals in zoos and one paragraph for keeping animals in zoos.
Here are Ida's paragraphs.
This week in Maths, we have continued our learning with multiplication. We learnt about cubed numbers, and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.
A cube number is a number multiplied by itself 3 times. This can also be called 'a cubed number'. The symbol for cubed is 3.
2³ = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8
3³ = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27
4³ = 4 × 4 × 4 = 64
5³ = 5 × 5 × 5 =125
Here is Joshua's work on cubed numbers.
To multiply by 10, 100 and 1000, the decimal place moves to the right. To divide by 10, 100 and 1000, the decimal place moves to the left.
Here is Bella W's work on multiplying and dividing multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.
Corpus Christi class has the privilege to be buddies with the reception class (Newnham). We meet every Friday afternoon for a reading session. This is a great opportunity for the year 5's to become role models for the younger students. Our buddy system plays an important part for the reception children to feel included in the school. It allows them to get to know other students and prepares them for when they are in year 1.
Here are some photos from this weeks reading session.
