Summer 2 - Week 2 - 10th June 2019

Welcome to the last half-term of Year 5!

It was fantastic to see so many of you at the Year 5 Cafe last half-term and I hope your children enjoyed sharing with you some of the things that they have learned.

We have lots to look forward to this half-term, amongst other things, there is Sports Day, our production of 'The Lion King' with Year 6, as well as our Year 5 Victorian Day, where the children will have the opportunity to perform at our Music Hall. To find out more about the Music Hall, please talk to your children or look at the Summer 2 Homework which is on the 'Homework' page of this site.

This week we will be continuing our learning about the metric system and converting between different units of measure. We will also continue to explore historical fiction, and the children will start to write their own stories based on the lives of working Victorians - please see photo below.

We have started learning about friction and forces and this week the children will be conducting experiments to assess the frictional impact of different surfaces. We will also be further exploring life in Victorian Britain, looking specifically at healthcare. In preparation for Sports Day, the children will be honing their skills at running a relay race - a great opportunity to explore team work.

In Art, the children have enjoyed looking at and discussing the lives and works of a range of Victorian artists, including Monet, Van Gogh and Constable. We have also started to learn the skill of quilling - please see photo below.

We will have a times tables test next week so please support your children in learning their times tables, including the division facts.
