Spring 2 - Week 2 - 4th March 2019
This week we will be continuing to learn about the Space Race and what happened next, after the USSR were successful in their launch of Sputnik 1. The children were so interested in learning about this last week so please do continue to talk to them about what we have been learning.
We will also continue our learning on the energy value of different foods. We have decided to base our investigation on the amount of energy that a 10 year old child needs to skip for 30 minutes (there has been a lot of skipping in the playground recently!). We have also chosen which foods, from each food group, we will be basing our experiment on (apples, chicken, pasta, crisps, cheese). This week we will design our experiment.
In Maths and English, we will continue to learn about percentages and instruction texts, respectively.
Of course, on Thursday, it is World Book Day. I am looking forward to dressing up myself and seeing all the children in their costumes. Please do talk to your children about their favourite books - it would be wonderful if they could each bring in a book to recommend and share with the class on Thursday.
It is also a times tables test week.
On World Book Day, we read 'The Cat in the Hat' together as a class and made bookmarks/ puppets inspired by the book. We made up our own short stories and poems using the characters from the book and performed puppet shows for each other.
